Our first generation PC-Cluster called AkuCluster
This system was assembled in Amirkabir University of Technology in 2001. This is a Beowulf class cluster consists of 32 Pentium III computers as computing nodes and one extra as management node. Some applications were developed on the system using C and FORTRAN languages, and MPI and PVM standards.

Main specifications of the system are as follows:

  • Number of computing nodes: 32 (extendable)

  • Type of computing processors: Pentium III

  • Total RAM: 8 Gigabyte

  • Total Hard disk capacity: 560 Gigabyte

  • Interconnection network: Fast Ethernet

  • Network topology: Reconfigurable

  • Operating System: Linux

  • Peak performance: 24 GFLOPS

Some researches of university and other governmental organizations have been benefited from this system. It was the first and even only PC-Cluster in TopClusters list which was registered from Iran. Among all 25 countries that had registered some system in this list, there were only seven countries from Asia except Iran.

Some advantages of PC-Cluster systems are as follows:

  • Low cost per performance ratio

  • Accessible and inexpensive hardware and software

  • Inexpensive maintenance

  • Extendable

  • Upgradeable

  • High available

  • No Need to Support by other Companies and Countries
